Division of Information Technology Report
As CSU Long Beach’s enterprise technology organization, the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) is responsible for providing high-quality, reliable, and secure information and technology services to facilitate student success and enable faculty and staff excellence.
- DoIT has facilitated the University’s partnership with Human-I-T, a local nonprofit company that creates equitable access to opportunity by diverting technology away from landfills and into the hands of people who need it most. Human-I-T was recommended by the City of Long Beach’s Technology and Innovation Department and helps donate the campus’ recycled computing equipment to needy families in Long Beach. Since late 2019, the University has donated 61,111 pounds of computing equipment, which equates to allowing Human-I-T to donate a combination of 611 computers, 2,546 internet connections, and 932 digital literacy courses to students in-need.
- Since 2020, DoIT has partnered with Student Affairs to address the technology equity issue among CSULB students. Through the CSUCCESS and CSULB tech loan programs, over 2,400 laptops and 500 iPads were loaned to first year students and students in need.
- The recently installed Smart Kiosk in Brotman Hall now includes enhanced wayfinding features for the visually impaired community. The descriptive alt-text provides step-by-step instructions for the campus community to help them find their destination in Brotman Hall
- Accessibility technology is a priority for the campus and allows inclusiveness for all students, faculty, staff and the public. DoIT actively works in partnership with other divisions and departments across the campus to facilitate access to instructional materials, documents and websites for everyone, regardless of disability.
- All DoIT management team members actively participated in diversity training to increase their awareness for equity and diversity needs within the division, including staff recruitments and interactions among DoIT staff and the campus community.
