Dr. Kevin Valenzuela

What fears or anxieties did you have about going to college?

I didn't feel like I belonged in college. When I first got there, I didn't have any idea what I wanted to major in, which made me feel lost and directionless. I didn't think I was smart enough and felt extremely disappointed after getting rejected by several colleges.

  • PhD, University of Tennessee Knoxville
  • MS, CSU Fullerton
  • BA, CSU Fullerton

You're here because you're capable of succeeding. The university would not have accepted you if they didn't feel you could handle it. There will be tough times but you aren't alone and there are ways to succeed here. Don't be afraid to reach out for help as this is a team journey.

Soccer, running, snowboarding, skydiving, wingsuiting, weight lifting, traveling, all sports and just about anything outdoors.

  1. Water bottle
  2. Soccer ball
  3. Matches (can't cook without fire!)

I have had what feels like every job imaginable (soccer referee, ice cream shop, bus boy, waiter, cook, bartender, electronics salesman, statistics researcher, office clerk, human resources director, teacher, trainer, landscaping). Having a degree opens a lot of doors for different kinds of jobs!

I conduct research in strength training, exercise biomechanics, running, gait, and extreme sports. I do research both inside and outside of a lab looking at how people move during different activities, and how those movement patterns improve performance and reduce injury risk.

Courses I teach:

KIN 201--Introduction to Kinesiology

KIN 300--Biomechanics of Human Movement

KIN 540--Biomechanical factors in human movement

KIN 541--Applied Biomechanics
