Campus Climate Survey

Published February 13, 2020

Dear Campus Community:

Prior to the pandemic in spring 2020, each active student, staff, and faculty was asked to participate in campus-wide surveys to explore our current climate. This effort provided a brief snapshot to help us collectively identify issues and find aspirational solutions to create a more inclusive environment for all.

Several university committees worked together to co-author a comprehensive report reflective of the survey’s findings. The committees include: the Academic Senate’s Campus Climate Committee; the Committee on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer + Campus Climate; and the President’s Commissions on Equity and Change, the Status of Women, and Sustainability. Additional contributors comprised of partners from Staff Council and the Divisions of Academic Affairs, Administration and Finance, and Students Affairs. A special thank you to these committees for their dedication to creating a welcoming environment for all those at The Beach.

Please visit the campus climate surveys website to access the comprehensive report and infographics which highlight some of these findings. I encourage you to dig deeply into the results, and I look forward to ongoing engagement with the Academic Senate’s Campus Climate Committee as we look for connections to work within the Beach 2030 action zones and, in particular, the President’s Equity and Change Commission.

As we work to better our institution, the Academic Senate’s Campus Climate Committee will also launch a series of open forums and focus groups to highlight the voices of community members who may be underrepresented on campus and in the survey responses. This will help us gather the information needed to create a university model of equity and excellence. The results of the climate surveys are just the beginning of larger conversations and actions to accelerate our progress.

Now, we all have an opportunity to participate and make The Beach the best place to learn, work, live, and thrive. For questions about these efforts please contact ccs@csulb.edu. I thank you all for being a part of this important process.

Go Beach!
