Cal State Long Beach provides services for DACA students

Dear Beach Community:

It is a time of great uncertainty as we prepare for the coming U.S. Supreme Court decision on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). And, it is an especially challenging time for those members of our campus and community whom are most directly affected.

While DACA has made it possible for many undocumented students to pursue their educational dreams, it is also beyond dispute that these individuals have made important and lasting contributions on our campus, throughout our community, and across the nation.

As anxiety increases for many, I want to clearly state that our university and the CSU system, along with many public and private universities across the country, remain steadfast in our support. It is important to remember that undocumented students are authorized to enroll at CSULB and to pay in-state tuition as a result of Assembly Bills 540 and 2000, Senate Bill 68 and the California Dream Act.

Vital support is available on campus.

• Our Dream Success Center is prepared to provide numerous services, resources and support at no cost.
• For students trying to manage personal challenges, our Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) team is prepared to provide assistance.
• Also, through agreements between the California Department of Social Services, Central American Resource Center (CARECEN) and CSU, undocumented CSU-affiliated students/staff can obtain immigration legal services and general assistance.

While the U.S. Supreme Court is not expected to render a decision until spring/early summer, the university will share any additional information as it becomes available. In closing, we will remain committed to our value that diversity is our strength. We will not shy away from addressing difficult questions or challenges and will remain "in this together" as we continue to foster a climate that is inclusive and safe for all.
