Susan Bloom has taught at CSULB since August, 2019. Prior to that, she taught film production at Humboldt State University for two years and for eight years (2008-2016) at Brooks Institute of Photography in the Film Production and Visual Journalism undergraduate programs, Wedding Photography Certificate and the Master’s program in Scientific and Technological Imaging. Bloom is an Avid Certified Instructor and was instrumental in converting Brooks, HSU and most recently, CSULB, into Avid Learning Partners so students could become Avid Certified Users while still in school. She is also an Adobe Education Leader and works closely with Adobe Education to bring opportunities to campus for cross discipline collaboration, as well as cross CSU campus events.
Susan Bloom is a working filmmaker and editor and her latest project, Goodbye to All Cats, a feature documentary about the movement to eradicate domestic cats in New Zealand to protect native species, screened worldwide at renowned festivals concerned with science and the environment. Currently, she is editing a feature narrative and co-directing a documentary on composer Jennifer Higdon, among other projects. Additionally, she cut theatrically released documentaries and worked in post production on network TV dramas.
Bloom is particularly interested in using media for environmental causes and outreach and continues to work as an editor on narrative and documentary projects.
