Timely Warning Crime Bulletins are usually distributed for the following Uniformed Crime Reporting Program (UCR)/National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) classifications: arson, criminal homicide, and robbery. Cases of aggravated assault and sex offenses are considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on the facts of the case and the information known by CSULB PD.

Dissemination of warnings may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Campus-wide email notice
  • Posting on University Police Department website
  • Campus-wide telephone announcement (via BeachALERT)
  • Press release
  • Physical bulletins distributed throughout the campus

Sex Offender Registration (PC 290):

As a public education institution, registered individuals have the right to attend and work at the University with the requirement that they must register with the University Police Department within five (5) days of beginning classes or employment at the University in addition to their annual registration requirements. During the registration, the subject's registering offense and threat levels are assessed to determine the need for a campus announcement or the need for additional restrictions to be placed on the subject.

The University Police Department recognizes that members of the campus community may be concerned about the presence of registered sex offenders on campus. Pursuant to California Penal Code Section 290.01(d)(4)(A), any member of the campus community may request to view campus sex offender information of those individuals who are registered with UPD. The person requesting to review the documentation must meet the following criteria:

  1. Not be a registered sex offender as described under California Penal Code Section 290.
  2. Must be a current member of the campus community.
  3. Have a concern for your safety or the safety of your children.
  4. Understand that it is unlawful to use the information to commit a crime against a registered sex offender or to engage in illegal discrimination or harassment of such an offender.

Any individuals needing to register with UPD, or anyone requesting to review this information, may contact the Detective Sergeant at (562) 985-0011.
