University Honors Program
Housed in the Division of Academic Affairs, the University Honors Program creates an academically enriched, community-minded, diverse learning environment that prepares select groups of talented undergraduates for leadership roles in fields that have a significant impact on society.
UHP classes are small, offering a faculty-to-student ratio comparable to those of many elite private colleges to ensure that students can pursue their intellectual and creative interests in a focused, collaborative atmosphere while still availing themselves of the many opportunities afforded by a large and dynamic comprehensive public university.
Investment Opportunities
Scholarships
Endow funds to create the University Honors Scholarship to help absorb the cost of tuition and housing, thereby ensuring that high-achieving students accepted into the Honors Program can dedicate the additional time and energy required to thrive as Honors students.
Honors to the Finish Line
Create an award or scholarship to cover an Honors student’s senior year of tuition as they focus on the research, design and presentation of their senior thesis or creative project. This will include a stipend for the thesis or creative project faculty advisor. By providing faculty awards, UHP will move toward a more sustainable model and an optimal research experience for students and faculty. This joint award empowers Honors students in their final year at The Beach, positioning them for success while they develop practical abilities under the guidance of a faculty expert.
Teaching Fellows Program
Create a UHP Teaching Fellows Program to support our best faculty to teach for a two-year period in the Honors Program. This will ensure that students receive the finest possible pedagogical experience while incentivizing in-demand instructors to commit as academic partners.
Alternative Spring Break
Endow funds to support the participation of Honors students in a service-learning experience over spring break. This high-impact practice will pair community-based service with activities designed to enhance student learning and development. An academic course will be coupled with service learning to foster collaborative-learning outcomes; to support real-world applications; and to enhance students’ reflection, critical thinking and leadership skills.
Honors Leadership Development
Endow an Honors Leadership Development Program to support the participation of Honors students in a summer retreat designed to explore, identify and develop leadership skills and career goals and then facilitate the completion of action plans, personal value assessments and motivational exercises.
