College of the Arts
One of the largest and most comprehensive publicly funded arts and design colleges in the country, California State University, Long Beach’s College of the Arts serves more than 3,000 students through more than 50 degrees and certificate options and through world-class venues that present year-round exhibits, performances and community outreach programs.
The college was the first in the 23-campus CSU system to offer professional arts degrees, and this bold tradition of inclusion and innovation has propelled COTA through the ranks of the country’s premier arts and design schools. COTA seeks to build its professional footprint of creative practice in diverse sectors of the economy and across creative disciplines. By advancing cultural discovery and practice based research and by deepening its commitment to cultivating diversity, equity, inclusion and access in all aspects of its endeavors, COTA is expanding its remarkable legacy.
Opportunities for Investment
Collaboration
Provide the infrastructure and tools to educate, support and prepare world-class artists and designers. Renovate facilities and provide the equipment and technology to bring together — in both physical and virtual spaces — students, early adopters and those creating the future.
Opportunity
Uplift students of all backgrounds, remove barriers, expand access, promote intellectual achievement and create global impact through undergraduate and graduate scholarship, graduate fellowships, practice-based research and creative activities. By supporting those inventing the future and fostering their educational and professional resilience, we empower them to make social and economic change.
Transformation
Empower students, staff and faculty through professional development and new learning environments. Open doors to internships and relevant partnerships that deliver real-world impact through direct engagement with cultures and industries. Enable travel and study abroad to advance cultural understanding and learning partnerships. Create ambassadors through speakers series across topics that foster interdisciplinary and collaborative learning. Catalyze professional development for faculty and staff, as well as professional preparation for students, including diversity, equity, inclusion and access training.
Audiences
Build community and reduce barriers among practitioners, industry and audiences by optimizing effective outreach; creating a portal for recruitment; making COTA productions, performances and assets accessible to all; and by increasing access to community activities. Investment in COTA’s visibility will broaden our professional and alumni networks, generate more audiences and support the creative practices.
