Kirsten Sumpter has been a staff member at CSULB since 2003. She was raised in Long Beach, and after completing her undergraduate degree in mathematics from Mills College, she returned to the area to pursue graduate studies. While completing her master’s degree in Recreation Administration at CSULB, she held multiple positions in camp administration and as a youth rowing coach, and ultimately as a staff advisor in Bickerstaff Center for Student-Athlete Services. After nearly ten years working with student-athletes, Kirsten transitioned to advising students in the College of the Arts. She served the School of Art for over five years before joining the BCCM and Department of Dance.
