Roberta Markman
Emerita Professor Dr. Roberta Markman came to CSULB in 1968 as an Associate Professor of Comparative Literature. She retired in 1998.
Dr Markman had a spectacular career and was recognized as an Outstanding Professor in 1981. Two years later, she became the first CSULB professor to be honored as Outstanding Professor among all the CSU campuses. In addition, Dr Markman helped found the on-campus chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the national honor society in which several CWL students were inducted over the years. She served as its president from 1978 to1998. She was also the director for the University Honors Program from 1982 to 1998. Roberta and her husband Peter co-authored four books on writing and mythology, notably 10 Steps in Writing the Research Paper (1990/2011) and The Flayed God: The Mesoamerican Mythological Tradition (1992).
