“Your education is an investment unlike a car, house, or stock…you cannot sell it.
So, you are explicitly linked to this institution and therefore, responsible for that brand.” -GMAC 2017

Prospanica, is an organization that was founded 30 years ago to empower and enable professionals to achieve their full educational, economic, and social potential. The 2018 conference served as the platform to connect with professionals from top companies in the United States, entrepreneurs, and many students. We heard the success stories of great Latino corporate leaders—Cari Dominguez, Ana Dutra, and Richard Montañez and were truly inspired by them. I had the opportunity to connect with many companies and I made many connections with entrepreneurs and MBA students from east to west coast. The experience was a very enriching, inspiring and elevating one.
“Earning my Masters Degree in Accountancy immediately following the undergraduate program has been integral in the current competitive job market as it has set myself apart from the crowds of candidates applying for similar positions. Since obtaining my MSA Degree at CSULB I have passed all four CPA examinations and have been hired full time at Holthouse Carlin & Van Tright LLP, where I have been able to apply the technical knowledge learned in the classroom, as well as the real life application obtained through case studies with clients. I am continually expanding my pool of knowledge and professional network, which would not be possible without the MSA program. Go Beach!”

Students participated in a three-day orientation at a downtown Long Beach Marriott hotel. The focus of the orientation is to prepare the student to work in teams, master the case discussion method, and begin the preparation for their career post-graduation. During the orientation, students get to know faculty, fellow students and alumni of the program and begin to work as teams.
Student-Managed Investment Fund (SMIF)
The Student-Managed Investment Fund (SMIF) Program, among the oldest such programs in California, reflects CSULB’s commitment to experiential learning on the part of our students. The students in the SMIF Program are responsible for the management of well over half a million dollars, spread across three portfolios managed on behalf of three different clients. As part of their fiduciary responsibility to these clients, the SMIF students must take on all facets of the portfolio management process, from economic analysis and asset allocation, to developing their investment strategy and determining their security selection, to monitoring the portfolio’s performance and developing their sell discipline, as well as, of course, continuing their client-relationship management. In sum, the SMIF Program provides a unique real-world experience that is invaluable for those students interested in pursuing a career in the investment-management industry.
Students in our MS Finance program, launching Fall 2019, will have the opportunity to apply for the SMIF program. Learn more about our MS Finance program.
Starting October 1, the Graduate Business Programs will be accepting applications for four new Masters Degrees. Our MS Finance is a one-year program, designed to prepare individuals to sit for the CFA examinations. The MS Marketing program focuses on marketing analytics, including marketing tools, marketing research and forecasting. The MS Information Systems will enable students to develop an advanced understanding of IS systems management, IT applications, business intelligence and cyber security. Finally, the long awaited Online MBA will allow students to earn their MBA without leaving their home. This program will prepare students for leadership roles in today’s technology-driven business world. We are very excited about the upcoming new programs and the opportunities they will provide for our students.

It’s that time of year again! We are preparing for the 9th Annual Innovation Challenge at CSULB. The Colleges of Engineering, Business and the Arts, with the support of the Institute for Innovation & Entrepreneurship, are excited to build on the success of the previous competitions. A critical element to the success of the program is having engaged and supportive mentors. The Innovation Challenge runs from September through April 2019. Your commitment can be flexible. The main goal will be signing off on your team’s business plan which is due February 15th.
If you are interested in participating as a mentor please provide the following:
- the way in which you intend to communicate (if you are available to meet face-to-face with your team),
- a short biography,
- the type of business that matches your expertise,
- if you have any previous mentoring experience
Email those answers with any questions to innovate@csulb.edu and someone will get back to you.
