Kate Trumbull-LaValle
Kate Trumbull-LaValle is an award-winning documentary filmmaker based in Los Angeles.
Most recently she was a co-producer for the groundbreaking five-part documentary PBS film series, Asian Americans (2020). She directed/produced the broadcast documentaries, Artist and Mother (2018) and City Rising: The Informal Economy (2018) for KCET with filmmaking partner, Joanna Sokolowski. Both films won two LA Press Awards, including best Gender/LGTBQ Reporting and Best Activism Journalism, and both were nominated for an LA Area Emmy. Kate and Joanna also directed/produced the award-winning feature doc, Ovarian Psycos (2016) which premiered at SXSW, HotDocs, and was broadcast on PBS Independent Lens (2017).
Kate teaches film and documentary at California State University, Long Beach, earned her BA in “History, Memory, Media & the Arts” from NYU, and her MA in Social Documentation from University of California, Santa Cruz, where she was the recipient of the Human Rights Center Fellowship (2010).
