Gordon Winiemko

Gordon Winiemko is an internationally exhibited filmmaker and interdisciplinary artist. He received his MFA in Art from UC Irvine and a BA in Film/Video Studies from the University of Michigan.

Gordon’s work is an investigation of the cultural framework – those “things we do” that are so commonplace that we often forget how they shape our lives, for better or for worse. The moving image is central to Gordon’s practice because it is the screen that plays a significant role in the construction and dissemination of those “things we do.” By framing performative actions and social interactions within the screen and by appropriating and remixing screen tropes, Gordon’s work sets the stage for the re-examination of otherwise transparent social structures.

Gordon’s work has been shown at a host of media festivals and conferences, such as the International Symposium on Electronic Art, Stuttgart Filmwinter, and SXSW; at exhibition spaces in the greater Los Angeles area like the UCR ARTS Sweeney Art Gallery, Torrance Art Museum, LACE, and Monte Vista Projects, and at screening venues like Anthology Film Archives, the Aurora Picture Show, the Blinding Light, and the late, great Echo Park Film Center.

Gordon has taught film production and post-production at CSU Fullerton, Fullerton College, and Los Angeles Mission College.
