Drs. Derakhshan & Bernal Help Lead the New LEAP Program @ CSULB
Dr. Derakhshan is among the principal investigators (and is the CNSM coordinator) of a new research program at CSULB to train a new generation of highly skilled Hispanic scientists and engineers. The program will be supported by a ~$2.1M grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF).
Intended to increase the representation of Hispanic students in STEM fields, the active learning-based educational program (LEAP) is a collaboration between the COB, COE, and CNSM in partnership with local industries.
Participating students will have a chance to conduct applied research, guided by a team of mentors from both academia and industry. Each student will receive a noticeable financial support (up to $~5500) by accomplishing the applied project. Each research team will have access to a business advisor and a compliance advisor as a supplemental tool to meet the established benchmarks of the research project.
Interested students may contact Dr. Bernal (Student Outreach, Recruitment, and Engagement Coordinator, Elaine.Bernal@csulb.edu). More details are available in the LEAP website: https://www.csulb.edu/leap.
