During my senior year here at The BEACH, I was able to partake in numerous activities, networking events, and mentorship programs through the associations I joined. I also developed strong bonds with multiple mentors who provided me with guidance and insight into their specific industries. Eventually, I became a Graduate Mentor myself, so I can also help others navigate their way through their educational journey and grow professionally.
As a first-generation college student, attending college seemed daunting yet exciting at the same time. Shortly after graduating high school, I attended San Bernardino Valley College and earned my A.A. in Business Administration, then transferred to Cal Poly Pomona to pursue my B.S in Business Administration. After graduation, I started working as a Financial Analyst for a casino where I previously worked as a blackjack dealer. There I met my first mentor, Sandra. During my time at the casino, I built a solid foundation that would allow me to grow professionally and personally. My mentor gave me the greatest gifts of all, guidance, and self-realization. After working for a couple of years, I knew that I wanted to continue my education to strengthen my skills and expand my knowledge, so I applied to CSULB due to its reputable MBA program. With the support of my friends, family, partner, and mentor, I was accepted and started my journey as an MBA graduate student.
After I am done with my MBA program, I plan on studying to become a certified management accountant (CMA) and attaining a few more certifications that will help me advance in my career. Eventually, I will pursue my Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) and teach as an adjunct professor on the side while continuing to work in industry.
I have a strong desire to give back and stay involved with the university by becoming a mentor. This program will allow me to do so.
