I am a widow and a navy widow. When I had to go back home, I was lucky to have a lot of cousins who were willing to come and babysit for me whenever I called them. I was raising four kids by myself while going to school, which was challenging but I had a great support system at home. My husband was in the Navy and he was in an airplane collision while on duty in South America. This led me to pursue my degree so that I could be home when my kids were home and have the same holidays. I was able to take one class at a time and the Veterans Administration provided me with financial help. Getting my degrees completely changed the course of my life. I was living in Washington DC and the Navy took care of all my furniture and belongings. My sister-in-law flew out to help me and I moved back to California. I wanted to do something once my kids were all in school, so I decided to go back and finish my degree. It was a difficult journey but I am so glad I did it.
