Census 2000 data

This is a primary source for U.S. statistical information for a variety of different topics including health, business, birth rates, housing and more.

 

County and City Data Books

This site is maintained by the University of Virginia.   It allows you to select specific data regarding cities and counties all over the US and generate custom tables.  This site takes its data from the Census so the most recent information available is 1994 until they add 2000 Census data.  One of the easiest ways to get all the statistics about LA County you need!

An interactive searchable database of international statistical information.

World Factbook

Compiled annually by the Central Intelligence Agency and contains information on individual countries, including maps and

such statistics as birth and death rates, migration, literacy rates, economic data, etc.

This book is arranged by state and includes crime rates for specific cities and towns.  What is useful about this title is the ability to look up crime rates on campuses of major universities within the different states nationwide.

This source offers statistics on a wide variety of topics including: sex offenders, marijuana arrests, number of bombings in the U.S., guns, drunk driving arrests, car thefts, executions by race or state, and many more.   It is easiest to use the index to find specific statistics.

 

Violence in America

This book provides a variety of statistics on violence and combines them with narrative information and further references.

Just Click on the option for Databases! You will then have the choice of finding statistics about Business and Economics, Health and Socioeconomic, Population and Demographics, Government Finance, Education , the Census and Community.

Newspapers: Proquest (CSULB Authentication Required)

This database allows you to search for articles that specifically provide statistics.  From the main screen click on the "Guided" Search tab.  From the next screen you will be able to select "Article Type"- select the "statistics" option.  You will then find articles that give you statistics about your topic if any exist.

 

Factiva (CSULB Authentication Required)

This database allows you to search for articles by selecting the "free text searching".  Add in terms that would indicate statistics e.g. survey- rates- average- percentage, etc.  Be creative and use synonyms and plurals!
