Operating hours for the Fall 2014 semester are shown below. All students are welcome to use the lab anytime during these hours, however priority will be given to students enrolled in foreign language courses.

College of Liberal Arts: The Language Center is maintained by the College of Liberal Arts, which is the largest college on campus.

AAAS: Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Tagalog and Vietnamese are housed in the department of Asian and Asian American Studies. AAAS offers Bachelor's Degrees in Chinese Studies, and Japanese, as well as a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Japanese.

RGRLL: Arabic, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish are all housed in the department of Romance, German, Russian Languages and Literatures. RGRLL offers four B.A. programs in French, German, Italian Studies, and Spanish. Minors are also available in all of those areas, as well as in Russian.

LOTE - Languages Other Than English: There are six Commission-approved subject-matter programs in Languages Other Than English: French, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin, and Spanish. Candidates who wish to become credentialed in a language other than these six may also demonstrate subject matter competence via CSET in Arabic and Mandarin to qualify for the credential program.

Fall Semester 2014: The Language Center will be open for the Fall Semester from Monday, August 25 to Wednesday, December 17. We encourage all students to use our tutoring and other language resources.

The labs may be reserved for class meetings throughout the semester, but we will try to accommodate all students as long as there is seating available. Hours for the semester are:

Individual and small group language support is available in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish. Check the language tutoring schedule for language support availability.

  September 4 CSULB Spring Break: CUBA 2015, 4:00-5:30pm (LA5-351).

Please share this with students or other interested parties who would like to join us in our 5th Short Term International Study Trip to Cuba. In 2012, we partnered with the Spanish Department and led a group of 27 CSULB students who still share with us their excitement and the benefits of this experience.

We will be recruiting over the next few months until our first orientation on September 4, or 16 (LA5-351), the cost includes all conferences, airfare, VISA, health insurance, lodging, local transportation, breakfast and dinner. Not included, admission to the National Cuban Art Museum, or other individualized activities. We are also trying to coordinate a visit to the Latin American School of Medicine which trains for free medical personal from nations all over the world and minority communities in the U.S.

Languages Online

There is an interesting web site called Frovo, which has the wildly optimistic goal of recording every word in every language in the world. You can browse the current collection by language, or search for a specific word. You can also join for free, which will allow you to add your own recordings, or rate the pronunciations recorded by others.
