Open Access Computing Facilities
Spidell Technology Center and Horn Center Labs

Two open access computer labs are available for current CSULB students, faculty, and staff: the Spidell Technology Center, located in the Library on the 1st Floor and the Horn Center, located on lower campus at the Steve and Nini Horn Center. Limited guest access to computers is available in the Library Spidell technology Center only.

Services and Policies for the Library Spidell Technology Center and the Horn Center Computer lab are:

Sign-Up

The Spidell Technology Center and the Horn Center utilize an automated computer reservation system (Sign-Up) that assigns computers to users as workstations become available. Authorized users must log on at a Sign-Up station before using a computer. Guest users in the Spidell Technology Center must first register at the Circulation Desk before using the Sign-Up system. Authorized CSULB users have a four hour time restriction when others are waiting; guest users have a one hour time restriction per day. Priority for computers will be given to authorized CSULB students. Sign-Up Express computers have a 15 minute time restriction, and are available to authorized CSULB users on a walk-up basis.

Wired and Wireless Access

Both the Spidell Technology Center and the Horn Center have areas with hot jacks for users with laptops. Students using wireless laptops must adhere to specific requirements for using the CSULB wireless network (BeachNet).

Printing

Printing is available from lab computers and laptops to Uniprint stations in the Spidell Technology Center and the Horn Center. Print jobs sent to the Uniprint stations remain in the queue and are available for printing for four hours. All printouts must be paid for by adding funds to the Beach Card or through a Courtesy Card (available for purchase by guests). Funds can be added using value transfer stations (VTS) located near each computer center. Funds can also be added to the Beach Card online

Guest Use Policies - 90 Minute Computing Passes

A limited number of computers in the Spidell Technology Center are available for public, or "guest", use. A guest user is any person not currently enrolled at, employed by, or awarded emeritus status at CSULB. Guest users will be required to register at the Circulation Desk, 1st Floor, for each day they wish to use a computer. A photo I.D. will be required to register. A Computing Pass will be issued to guest users at the Library Circulation Desk after registration has been completed. A Computing Pass will allow the guest user access to an available computer when using the Sign-Up computer reservation system in the Spidell Technology Center. 

Computing Passes will be issued to registered guest users for same day use only, and will expire at 12:00 Midnight each day. Guest users will have a computer use time of 90 consecutive minutes.

Guest computers will have access to an internet browser and temporary workspace on the computer. Due to licensing restrictions,  CSULB licensed software (such as MS OfficeTM) can NOT be made available on guest computers.
