Parent Handbook

Message from the Dean of Students

Dear Parents,

Jeff Klaus, Dean of Students

We are here to support the academic success of all students. Research shows you can play a critical role as a partner with the university to positively influence student development, education and graduation.

The Division of Student Services and the Dean of Students Office are advocates for students. We work closely with our academic colleagues to foster the best educational experience inside and outside the classroom we can. This handbook is designed as a resource for parents. We hope you use it as such throughout your son’s or daughter’s education at CSULB.

The Dean of Students Office also acts as a clearinghouse for parents. Please contact us with questions and concerns you may have. We wish all the best for you and your student and for their success at “The Beach."

Cordially,
Jeff Klaus , Ed.D.
Associate Vice President for Student Services and Dean of Students

About the Dean of Students Parent Council

The Dean of Students Parent Council was founded in Spring 2006. The Dean of Students Office and parents of freshmen developed the following vision: “To positively affect the success of students and satisfaction of parents.” Past Parent Council activities have included staffing welcome tables for parents at the CSULB Open House for newly admitted students and at residence hall “move in” day, as well as half-day programs featuring speakers on key services that support student success. A monthly e-newsletter and this Parent Handbook are a direct result of input from parents.
