Learning Assistance Center (LAC)

The LAC helps students be more successful through Learning Skills Specialists, English language tutoring, individual and drop-in tutoring and Supplemental Instruction (SI).

LAC

Do you know that you need help with your course load, but you’re not sure where to start? Most students struggle at some point during the semester. Read through the following statements to see what Learning Assistance Center program would help you the most.

Learning Skills helps students who:
• know the material but blank out on the test
• just can’t stay organized and can never find enough time to study
• read, but don’t remember things

Tutoring helps students:
• trying to maintain a good grade in a difficult course and struggling to understand course material
• who feel that meeting one-on-one with a trained tutor on a weekly basis would be beneficial
• who are interested in a more casual style of drop-in tutoring so they can come and go as help is needed

Language and Writing Tutoring will help you if you
• have limited language skills for college writing, reading, and/or speaking
• need help with English because English is not your first language
• want to improve your speaking skills – pronunciation and speed
• need more vocabulary and idioms in order to understand lectures and conversations more easily
• want to know more about the American culture

Supplemental Instruction (S/I 60) will help you
• if you need study strategies that are specific to your course
• If you want an insider’s perspective; SI is taught by an experienced student
• If you want to meet with a smaller group of students to review coursework

The LAC has several programs available to students to help them be successful in their classes. Please call, visit our website or walk into our office to get more information and to sign-up for one of our programs today.
