During the weekend of October 12-13, the Lambda Beta Chapter at CSULB was re-chartered. Forty-six men were pledged and 34 brothers were initiated into the fraternity during the ceremonies. The Long Beach chapter was originally chartered 22 years earlier (on October 12, 1990), making the chartering anniversary that much more special to the Lambda Beta brothers. The chartering of Long Beach increases the number of Lambda Beta chapters in California to seven.
CSULB’s 2012-2013 student body executives John Haberstroh, ASI president, and Jonathon Bolin, ASI vice president, donated 30 percent of their salaries to fund scholarships for textbooks and those who epitomize “Beach Pride.” The ASI is also poised to reward 25 students with $1,000 Student Engagement Scholarships.
Roseann Knight, chair of the University Student Union Board of Trustees, was honored by Assemblymember Bonnie Lowenthal on October 26 at the 2nd annual “30 Under 30” event which celebrates the contributions of 30 women under the age of 30 as part of “Make a Difference Day.”
In April, Lucy Nguyen, CSULB’s 2011-2012 student body president, was honored by the Long Beach Post and Choura Events at the annual “40 Under 40” awards.
In June, Leidy Partida was selected for a summer national internship with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities in Washington, D.C. Partida is a student participant in CSULB’s College Assistance Migrant Program.
Long Beach Leaders, an organization of students and campus leaders whose primary goal is to promote, educate, mentor and encourage students to pursue higher education, has partnered with food and rescue program Food Finders’ to participate in year-round food drives through Long Beach College Promise Tours. LBL Staff Advisor and Outreach Specialist Corion Lucas spearheads the LBLs community involvement alongside Food Finders.
