High Tech Center (HTC) and Alternative Media Project

About the Program

The High Tech Center provides computer support services for students with disabilities and maintains a consultant relationship with faculty and staff. The center also provides one-on-one training and small group demonstration sessions for students, faculty and staff members to develop their knowledge and skills in the use of assistive technology software and hardware.  The HTC also provides a study room in the lower level library for students with disabilities to access.

  • Assistance in the use of assistive technology software and hardware
  • Test accommodations for W P E, E L M / E P T, Chemistry, TEAS, ACT and SAT examinations
  • Print media converted to an alternative E-text, KES, Large Print and/or Literary Braille format

Policies & Agreement Forms

Students with a verified disability can acquire literary textbooks and resource materials required for course instruction to be converted into alternative format such as E-Text, KES, Large Print, and Literacy Braille.  Students will need to contact the Alternative Media Specialist, Sonia Acosta at (562) 985-5605.

Study Room

Disabled students needing access to the lower level library study room will need to contact Sonia Acosta at (562) 985-8712. The study room is equipped with two PC’s, Microsoft office, JAWS, Zoomtext, K3000, and Dragon Naturally Speaking.

Students with a disability who need computer access for university, state, or national tests may arrange accommodations with the HTC staff when requests are within the guidelines of the examinations offered at the university.
