Our Mission

Project OCEAN (On Campus Emergency Assistance Network) at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) was initiated in September, 2008. The overall goal of Project OCEAN is to prevent suicide by promoting a campus climate that reduces the stigma of mental health issues and encourages help seeking behaviors when needed. The overall goal of Project OCEAN is to advocate for student mental health and prevent suicide by promoting a campus climate that encourages students to seek support when needed. The project focuses on providing CSULB students with psychoeducation about mental illness and mental health, online mental health screenings, and increase awareness about support services on campuses and in the community. Project OCEAN supports the mental health concerns of all students, and will focus on unique needs of various student groups. The activities of Project OCEAN are designed to strengthen and fill gaps in existing services to “expand the safety net” for students vulnerable to suicidal ideation.
