    Question

    Answer

    Previous Experience

If I have taken and passed a Responsible Conduct of Research subject at another institution, must I take and pass the CSU Long Beach subject module on the same subject?

Yes. The CSU Long Beach modules are not difficult and will be particularly easy for people who are already well versed in the subject. However, different institutions have slightly different approaches and vocabularies, and moreover, it is expected that CSU Long Beach research groups will discuss the subject modules among themselves.

    Applicability

Do I have to take and pass any of the Responsible Conduct of Research subject modules if I am not applying to the U.S. Public Health Service for grant funding?

No. Members of the IRB are required to complete the Human Subjects Protections Module. Faculty may require students to complete modules. Faculty members are encouraged to use these resources within their research staffs, particularly with graduate students. If there are additional mandates from outside or within the campus, this answer will be amended.

    Continuation

Do the RCR requirements apply to continuing grants and to existing grants which will subsequently be renewed or continued?

Yes. If you are an applicant or awardee using Human Subjects after 10/1/00, you must be certified in the Human Subjects subject module.
