Orientation to the CSULB Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee

Authority

At CSU Long Beach the "Institutional Assurance" to the federal government that the faculty and staff will abide by the regulations and guidelines established in the Public Law 99-158, the NIH Policy on Human Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, and the Animal Welfare Act is stated in CSU Long Beach Executive Order of November 4, 1991. This Order also created the Animal Welfare Board, now referred to as the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), for the campus.

The "Institutional Official" charged with responsibility for the implementation of federal policy is the Associate Vice President for Research and External Support, but the Chief Executive of the Campus (the President) is recognized by the federal government as the final authority in these matters.
