Innovar-Vet Recommended Use

(For blood collection in rabbits for vasodilation of central auricular artery)

  1. Inject Innovar subcutaneously at a dose of 0.125ml/kg boy wt. or 0.5ml or an average 4kg rabbit.
  2. Let animal remain in cage until vasodilation occurs, about 20 minutes.
  3. Place rabbit in a restrainer cage and clip or shave the dorsal aspect of the ear over the artery.
  4. Collect blood sample as needed.
  5. When sample has been collected, remove needle and apply direct pressure over the artery.

It is important that Innovar be injected subcutaneously; the intramuscular route may cause lameness and local necrosis.

NOTE: Innovar-Vet is a veterinary formulation of fentanyl and droperidol. Innovar (no-vet) is a human preparation that also contains fentanyl and droperidol in a less (8X) concentrated form. Please consult with the Veterinarian or Research Facility Coordinator prior to using Innovar-Vet or Innovar in rabbits.
