New Interim AVP for Research and Sponsored Programs

Dr. Andrew (Zed) Mason has been named Interim Associate Vice President for Research and Sponsored Programs at CSULB. He will replace T.C. Yih who has accepted a new position at Florida Gulf Coast University. Dr. Mason’s appointment, which was the result of a campus-based search, is for two years.

In addition to an impressive record in research, Dr. Mason has established a long history of accomplishment as an instructor and in service to the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (CNSM) and the campus. In his current role as Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies in the CNSM, he has worked with colleagues to develop and create a significant number of successful grant proposals. He is also known as a highly effective mentor for faculty of all ranks. Dr. Mason will begin his duties at the beginning of the Fall semester. Since this appointment comes so near the beginning of the new academic year, there will be a transition period between his current and new duties.

Dr. Mason takes this position at a time of great uncertainty. The importance of supporting faculty research and creative activity is critical to the future of the university. Zed Mason will be a dedicated, effective, and tireless advocate for research support for faculty, including research that involves students.

CFA-CSU Contract Ratification Underway

As you may be aware, the CSU and CFA have reached a tentative agreement on a new faculty collective bargaining agreement. The CFA is currently in the process of ratifying this tentative agreement. Voting began August 13 and ends August 30th. The CFA Bargaining Team and Board of Directors have recommended ratification of this agreement. The agreement will become effective upon ratification by CFA members and the CSU Board of Trustees. Efforts are underway to complete the process by the September 2012 Board of Trustees meeting.

For your information, the following links offer a summary of the agreement and the word for word changes to the previous agreement:
