Faculty can get help completing their books, professional journal papers, grant proposals and other writing projects at the January Scholarly Writing Workshops (formerly the Scholarly Writing Institute).
The workshops create a productive environment for scholarly writing projects, with a comfortable writing space, enthusiastic colleagues, editorial and statistical assistance and food. Workshops are scheduled as follows:

Faculty can preview the new BeachBoard at a workshop Tuesday, January 18 from 10 am – 3 pm in the Anatol Center.
The workshop, sponsored by the Faculty Center for Professional Development and Instructional Technology Support Services (ITSS), will offer a preview of Desire2Learn (D2L), the Learning Management System that is replacing Blackboard. The spring 2011 semester will be the final term utilizing Blackboard; however faculty can begin using Desire2Learn this spring by participating in a pilot program.

The Winter Institute on Teaching and Learning will be Thursday, January 20 from 10 am – 3 pm in the Anatol Center.
The institute will address Universal Designs for Learning (UDL). Many faculty have heard about accommodating student differences and UDL provides a framework for making accommodations that are good for all students. UDL provides a blueprint for creating instructional goals, methods, materials, and assessments that work for everyone —not a single, one-size-fits-all solution, but rather flexible approaches that can be customized and adjusted for individual needs.
UDL expert, Dr. Brett Christie will facilitate WITL and provide the keynote address. Lunch will be served. RSVP to fcpd@csulb.edu by Monday, January 10.
