CSULB's California Repertory Company (Cal Rep) has been nominated yet again for best ensemble performance by the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle for The Kentucky Cycle Part II. California Repertory Company is the only acting company associated with a university to be nominated for this prestigious award.
"This is an extraordinary achievement," said Joanne Gordon, chair of the Theatre Arts Department and artistic director of Cal Rep. "Not only is it an acknowledgement of the professional expertise of our students, but it reinforces the respect that the Cal Rep Company engenders in the theatrical community of Los Angeles."
The Kentucky Cycle is a nine-play epic that follows seven generations of one family in Kentucky from 1775 to 1975.
This is the third time in four years that the California Repertory Company has been nominated for an Ensemble Performance Award by the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle. The company's work has also been lauded in a number of other categories including winning the Polly Warfield Award for the best season in a small to mid-size theatre in 2005. The awards ceremony will take place on Monday, March 16, at the El Portal Theatre in Los Angeles.
