Message from the President

President Alexander

The 2010-11 year was remarkable at California State University, Long Beach.

More than 70,000 students applied to our campus in fall 2010. We received more than 45,000 applications from first-time freshmen, the fifth largest number in the nation.

We were also a national leader in graduating new generations of students from all socioeconomic backgrounds, with 8,500 students earning 8,800 degrees in 2011. Our enhanced campus-wide commitment to graduating students over the past five years has propelled us into the top 20 most productive universities in numbers of graduates, while also elevating our campus to the 10th best university in graduating students from diverse backgrounds.

I hope you will enjoy reading about the many additional university achievements as well as individual accomplishments of our faculty, staff and students.

I am grateful to each member of our campus community for making this university one of the best in the nation.

GO BEACH!

WDon Parahat makes California State University, Long Beach a university of distinction?

It is our outstanding students who possess a determination to succeed. It is our dedicated staff members who are committed to supporting students. And it is our talented faculty who go above and beyond what is required to help students achieve their life’s goals.

This Annual Report highlights many of the individual and collective achievements of our remarkable faculty, staff and students during 2010-11.  While we cannot feature everyone's accomplishments, I appreciate the opportunity to highlight many achievements in instruction, research and creative activity, and service.
