The College of Natural Sciences has been provided with two exceptional new buildings in recent years at considerable state expense. The Office of the Provost expects the college to make very good use of these new facilities to deliver CSULB’s science instructional and research programs in coming years.
CSULB’s current capital plan includes three phases of activity involving the remaining PH 1 and PH 2
buildings.
PH 1 and 2 will be used primarily as surge space for occupants moved from the Liberal Arts Buildings (LA) corridor to make it possible to complete seismic and other upgrades to LA 2-4. A few programs and one academic department will relocate permanently to the PH buildings in this phase as well. The budget for cosmetic repairs in both PH 1 and 2 does not allow for any repairs, or demolitions in spaces not used for this surge plan.
With LA upgrades complete, surge occupants will move back to LA locations and longer-term occupants, primarily from the College of Liberal Arts will be relocated into the PH buildings.
The campus hopes to demolish one or both of the PH buildings or undertake a complete remodel project. At this time, funding appears to be well into the future.
Based on staff recommendations, the Office of the Provost has assigned spaces which can be seen on the PH 2 Floor Plan. These assignments are for Phase 1 only. As the end of Phase 1 approaches, requests for continued use may be entertained, but this is uncertain. All assigned spaces shall be properly maintained. All storage shall meet fire and safety codes at all times. Hallways also shall meet fire and safety codes at all times, specifically by being kept clear.
All other rooms NOT assigned must be completely vacated by October 15, 2011. This includes all
shelving, machinery, and personal effects.
