Assistant Professor of Theatre (Viewpoints & Acting)

Effective Date

August 18, 2014 (Fall semester)

Salary Range

Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or M.F.A. degree, or official notification of completion of the degree, by August 1, 2014.
  • Demonstrated successful teaching of acting at the college or university level.
  • Demonstrated successful teaching in professional actor training programs or studios.
  • Demonstrated training in the Viewpoints.
  • Evidence of experience as a professional actor in at least one of the following: TV, film, theatre, cabaret.
  • Demonstrated commitment, experience, and success in educating a diverse student population.

     

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated successful teaching of acting at the university level.
  • Experience with at least one of the following acting methodologies: Stanislavsky, Hagen, Meisner.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience teaching the Viewpoints.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating across departments in a university context.
  • Demonstrated experience in theatre-related community outreach or engagement.
  • Experience in recognized guest artist residencies or acting training programs.
  • Current and on-going affiliation with a nationally recognized theatre company and training studio.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish effective student engagement in production of new and established theatre productions.

     

Duties

  • Teach a variety of courses in acting, movement, the Viewpoints and improvisation at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Additional duties include auditioning perspective MFA Performance Pedagogy candidates, mentoring students applying for graduate training programs, acting, coaching and/or conceiving Theatre Arts productions and special events.
  • Maintain an active agenda of research, scholarly, and creative activity at national/ international level.
  • Participate in service to the department, college, university, and community.
