Position

Assistant Professor of Art History (Islamic with Additional Specialization in Medieval, South Asian, or African Art)

Effective Date

August 19, 2013 (Fall Semester)

Salary Range

Commensurate with qualifications and experience

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2013 required
  • Evidence of one year of full-time college teaching or part-time equivalent
  • Demonstrated ability to teach Islamic art history, and at least one of the following: Medieval, South Asian, or African
  • Commitment to and/or expertise in educating a diverse student population

 

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of experience teaching both lower- and upper-division undergraduate courses and seminars
  • Evidence of experience directing scholarly research by graduate students
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current theoretical issues
  • Demonstrated interest in curriculum development
  • Demonstrated potential to participate in the department’s dialogue between art history and studio majors
  • Record of publications and scholarly achievement
  • Record of academic service

 

Duties

  • Teach lower- and upper-division courses, including a large survey course and graduate seminars in a school that offers a B.A. and M.A. in Art History

  • Direct scholarly research by Art History graduate students

  • Student advisement, curriculum development, service on graduate student committees, and school, college and university service

  • Resume/Curriculum vitae with current email address

  • Statement of teaching philosophy

  • Copy of official transcript from institution awarding highest degree

  • At least three current letters of recommendation from professionals in the field addressing the applicant’s specific qualifications for the position

  • All above items will be retained
  • Applicants may also include copies of performance evaluations from prior teaching experience, and other documentation regarding instruction and instructionally related activity; research, scholarly and creative activity; and service activities. Include a self-addressed envelope with adequate postage for the return of this additional documentation 

  • Please note that an applicant’s file cannot be fully considered until all required materials have been received
  • Finalists will be required to submit sample syllabi, official transcript, and a signed SC-1 university application form

Clearly mark all application materials with applicant’s name and “Islamic AH Search.” Submit materials in a plain manila file folder—no three-ring binders please. Compile all materials into a single package and send to:
