Teaching Workshops

Winter & Summer Institutes on Teaching & Learning (WITL & SITL)

A day-long opportunity for faculty to reconnect and engage in learning, dialogue, and discussion about a topic of common interest/concern for the coming semester. Institutes are offered in late January and late August, normally the week prior to the beginning of the semester. Lunch is provided.

Designs4Learning:  Blended Learning
Curriculum for Faculty Development

Combined online and face-to-face, three-week, instructional design courses that lead to course redesign for improved student learning. Topics include:

  • Culturally inclusive pedagogy,
  • Instructional design for blended and online courses,
  • Best practices in learning communities,
  • Best practices in utilizing supplemental instruction,
  • New faculty support and services.
Offered by request, and during summer/winter sessions.  Free to all CSULB faculty members. 

Munch-N-Learn Series

These one-hour, brown-bag "familiarization" workshops focus on campus resources, timely issues, information updates, and new technology previews. 

 

 

Welcome Orientations

New Faculty Orientation

Meet colleagues and get an overview of campus personnel and resources, services and facilities. Program includes informal table discussions and presentations by the Provost, and various units.

Reach-Out-to-Lecturers' Welcome & Program

Supports the continuous improvement of Lecturers to deliver the finest educational services to their students by offering a Lecturer Welcome, a "Faculty Handbook for Lecturers" and Lecturer’s Evaluation Workshops.
Lecturers can schedule individual consultations with the FCPD Lecturer Representative.

 

 

Evaluation Workshops

Lecturers' Evaluation Workshops

Addresses the part-time and full-time Lecturer Periodic Evaluation process as well as:

  • Scholarship and creative activities
  • University/community services,
  • General and specific strategies for effectively communicating professional qualities, and
  • Documenting achievements effectively within the evaluation process.

 

 

Technology Workshops

Technology Tuesday

During these one-hour workshops experienced faculty members demonstrate how they use instructional technology.  Faculty have the opportunity to explore whether a particular technology would improve their own teaching and learning.

Instructional Technology Training

Events and training co-sponsored by Instructional Technology Support and Services (ITSS).

Faculty e-Learning Consultants

Faculty e-learning consultants provide individualized, hands-on support for faculty instructional technology use.

 

 

Scholarly Activity

Scholarly Writing Institute

A three-day, intensive writing experience co-sponsored with the Office of University Research. Faculty who register are asked to have most of their research completed (ready to write) and bring a laptop computer for their use. 

 

 

Specialized Consultations

We offer:

  • Private consultations to assist faculty with their professional development needs and concerns;
  • Consultations with colleges and departments to design faculty development programming specific to their needs.
