This policy statement was recommended by the Academic Senate in its meeting of May 21, 1981, approved by the President on June 10, 1981, and authorized by the California Commission on Teacher Preparation and Licensing on January 29, 1982. SUBJECT:    MULTIPLE-SUBJECTS CREDENTIAL:    EMPHASIS IN BILINGUAL INSTRUCTION IN THE INDOCHINESE LANGUAGE (VIETNAMESE, CAMBODIAN, AND LAOTIAN) AND ENGLISH

The Multiple-Subjects Credential with an Emphasis in Bilingual Instruction in the Indochinese Languages and English is an option within the Single-Subject Credential program.  The candidate for this credential must be officially admitted to the Multiple-Subject Credential program at CSULB and must successfully complete all the professional competencies and field experiences identified below as well as the Graduate Writing Proficiency Examination and the Indochinese Bilingual Proficiency Test.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE CREDENTIAL

Admission to the Multiple-Subjects Credential program, including Ed E1 380 (3 units) or equivalent.

Ed E1 440    Language Arts in the Elementary School (3 units)
Ed E1 450    Reading in the Elementary School (3 units)
Ed E1 460    Mathematics Reading in the Elementary School (3 units)
Ed E1 470    Social Studies Reading in the Elementary School (3 units)
Ed E1 490    Multicultural Methods for Teaching Indochinese Learners (3 units)
AS AM 490 The Indochinese in America: Their Culture and Contributions (3 units)
Eng 429        Language Strategies for Bilingual/TESOL Classrooms (3 units)
Ed S1 481    Student Teaching in the Elementary School (12 units), half of which shall be in the Indochinese bilingual setting
