Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Federal Rehabilitation Act, transition is a time for preparing for and moving from school to work and community life. Transition Services option students develop competencies to aid adult learners in making the move from school to integrated employment.

The option in Vocational Arts is designed to develop education practitioners who facilitate the learning of adults in various contexts. Many students combine the bachelor's degree option in Vocational Arts with a Designated Subjects Credential to optimize employability in vocational and adult learning settings. The option prepares teachers in planning, executing, and assessing instruction by developing skills necessary to organize content, create a positive learning environment, exercise appropriate teaching methods, and continue to reflect and develop professionally.

Professional Competency (43 units): coursework determined in consultation with department academic advisor. Professional competency courses for completing the 120 unit requirement for graduation can be met in many ways, including PROF 301 (1-9 units), transfer technical courses and profession-related courses in other departments. Performance in college-level or proficiency examinations approved by CSU will also be accepted.
The Designated Subjects Teaching Credential program (DSC) at CSULB is a teacher education program. Candidates in the program will be hired as vocational and adult education teachers in the local public schools. Candidates are required by credential laws and regulations to complete teacher preparation course within the first two years of holding the credential.
The Designated Subjects Credential program for both vocational and adult education consists of 12 semester units of methodology coursework and three semester units of Health Science.
