Office Computer Password Reset

If you have the following operating systems, please follow the directions provided below:

If you use a different operating system, or if you have questions regarding password resets, please contact your local campus technology support for additional information.

Windows XP or Vista

If your campus computer uses Windows XP or Vista:

  1. Log into your computer by entering your current office computer (Active Directory) User ID and password.
  2. Press Ctrl+Alt+ Delete on your keyboard. Windows Security dialog box displays.

  3. Click the Change Password button. The Change Password dialog box displays.

  4. Enter your old password in the Old Password field. Then, enter your new password in the New Password field and reenter your new password in the Confirm New Password field.
    • Your new password:
      • Must not have been used as your previous five (5) office computer (Active Directory) passwords
      • Must not contain your full name or office computer (Active Directory) user name
      • Must be at least 8 characters
      • Must contain at least three (3) of the following four (4) character types:
        • Uppercase letters (A through Z)
        • Lowercase letters (a through z)
        • Numbers (0 through 9)
        • Special characters (such as: !, $, %, #)
  5. Click the OK button.
  6. If the system doesn't accept your new password, a dialog box displays, which directs you to enter another password.
  7. If the system accepts your new password, a dialog box displays, which says your password has been successfully modified.

Windows 7

  1. Log into your computer by entering your current office computer (Active Directory) User ID and password.
  2. Press Ctrl+Alt+ Delete on your keyboard and then click Change a Password.

  3. Type your old password in the Old Password field. Then, enter your new password in the New Password field and reenter your new password in the Confirm Password field.

    Your new password:
    • Must not have been used as your previous five (5) office computer (Active Directory) passwords
    • Must not contain your full name or office computer (Active Directory) user name
    • Must be at least 8 characters
    • Must contain at least three (3) of the following four (4) character types:
      • Uppercase letters (A through Z)
      • Lowercase letters (a through z)
      • Numbers (0 through 9)
      • Special characters (such as: !, $, %, #)
  4. Press ENTER or click on the right arrow button.
    • If the system doesn't accept your new password, a dialog box displays, which directs you to enter another password.
    • If the system accepts your new password, a dialog box displays, which says your password has been successfully modified.

Macintosh

 

  1. First, verify that the login keychain is unlocked by launching Keychain Access in the Utilities folder. Click on “Go” in the menu bar and select Utilities.

  2. Scroll down to find Keychain Access and double click to launch it.

  3. Once Keychain Access is open, verify that the “login” keychain is in the unlocked position. You should see the message “Click to lock the login keychain” if it is unlocked.

  4. If the login keychain is unlocked, then skip to step 7 below.
  5. If the login keychain is locked, then click on the padlock icon to unlock it.

  6. Enter your password to unlock the login keychain and click OK.

  7. Quit the Keychain Access application.

  8. Click on the Apple icon in the top left corner of the menu bar and select “System Preferences.”

  9. Click on “Accounts.”

  10. Verify that your username is selected and click on “Change Password” to display the change password dialogue box.

  11. Enter your old password and then the new password. Click “Change Password.

  12. Your new password:
    1. Must not have been used as your previous five (5) office computer (Active Directory) passwords
    2. Must not contain your full name or office computer (Active Directory) user name
    3. Must be at least 8 characters
    4. Must contain at least three (3) of the following four (4) character types:
    5. Uppercase letters (A through Z)
    6. Lowercase letters (a through z)
    7. Numbers (0 through 9)
    8. Special characters (such as: !, $, %, #)
  13. Click OK to dismiss the Keychain dialogue box.
