The News tool enables the instructor to communicate announcements, updates, changes, etc. to users as soon as they enter BeachBoard and each course/organization. News items appear in two places: combined from all courses/organizations into the News widget in the middle of the My Home page, and in the News widget in the middle of each course/organization Course Home page. You can also receive email notifications about new items and updates to old items.
You can now dismiss a news items in the News widget if you do not wish to see that post anymore. Dismissing a news item does not delete the news item, it just hides it; you can always restore a dismissed news item.
In order to dismiss a news item in the News widget, simply click the 
Dismiss icon next to the desired news item.

*Note: the instructor can also restore a news item for you if they make make a major edit to a previously dismissed news item.
You can choose to receive email notifications when new items are posted or when old items have been updated by the instructor. Notifications are managed through the Notifications tool.
