Grades

It is entirely up to your instructor what grade items and grade item information is displayed in the Grades area. Please contact your instructor if you have questions about your grades and what is/is not displayed.

Viewing your grades

Click on the Grades tool on the course navbar.grades on the course navbar

Example student grades area

  • Final Calculated/Adjusted Grade: if the final grade has been released by the instructor, it will appear at the top of the Grades page. If it has not, you will not see the Final Grade. Final Grades in BeachBoard are not official grades; official grades can be viewed, when available, through MyCSULB.
  • Grade Item: Grade Items made visible by the instructor will be listed on the Grades page. If you see a bar graph symbol to the right of the grade item, you can click on the icon to view course statistics for that grade item.
  • Points: to the right of the grade item you will see (if graded) your score out of the maximum number of points possible (example: 98 / 100). If the item has not been graded, most likely you will see a dash instead of a number in the numerator.
  • Weight Achieved: if your instructor is using a weighted gradebook, the weight achieved is the weight earned for that grade item that will go towards the final grade (out of 100).  If your instructor is not using a weighted gradebook, you will not see this column.
  • Grade: the default Grade for an item is the percentage earned (example 98 out of 100 points receives a 98% under Grade). If your instructor has created a different scheme (such as letter grades), something else might be displayed here.
  • Comments and Activities: the instructor can provide individual or course-wide comments in the Comments section. If the instructor has attached a rubric to a grade item, you will see a View Activities link under Comments. Click to view the rubric.

*Note: If you see a 0 listed for an item that has not yet been completed/graded, this is because the instructor has set the gradebook to treat all ungraded items as 0.
