Software Depot Installation Policy

California State University, Long Beach has a site license for the SAS Education Analytic Suite (EAS) statistical software. It is an annual subscription coordinated by Academic Technology Services. The SAS license period is from July 1 through June 30 of each year.

The license provides SAS software for installation on university-owned computers. Software installation always requires administrative privileges of which you may not have on your university-owned computer. Please contact your division, department or college technologist for assistance. Faculty, staff and students can also install SAS on their personally owned computers that are primarily used for CSULB business.

System Requirements

Operating Systems

The minimum system requirements for SAS 9.3 Foundation products support Vista editions targeting the business market.

  • Windows Vista Business
  • Windows Vista Enterprise
  • Windows Vista Ultimate

SAS 9.3 also supports System 7 products with the exception of Home Basics. Also, SAS Enterprise Miner will not run on System 7 Home Premium, although the Foundation will install and run successfully.

SAS 9.3 is also supported on Windows XP Professional.

Installation

Download Software from CSULB Software Depot

SAS 9.3 can be downloaded from the Software Depot. if you have a high speed network and over 15 GB of free hard disk space. The Software Depot steps are listed below.

  1. Log into Software Depot using your MYCSULB login and password.
  2. Use "Search by Product Titles" and select "SAS 9.3 for Windows". Click Go button.
  3. Click "Add to Cart".
  4. Click "Check Out".
  5. Product and customer names should appear. Enter your email address as you will be sent a notification message. Click the Next button.
  6. Purchase Receipt screen will appear. Click "Secure Download".
  7. Click "Download Software". A security warning will appear - click Continue button.
  8. When asked if you would like to save this file, click "Save File".
  9. Select a directory to save SAS and click "Save".
  10. Logoff of Software Depot.
  11. Navigate to the downloaded SAS file and click to launch.
  12. "License Authorization and Software Installation" screen will appear. Click continue.
  13. Click "Launch Install" button and when ready, double click the SAS "setup.exe" file to begin the installation.
  14. This download installation is setup for only the SAS Foundation.

Borrow Media from CSULB University Library Reserve Desk

Users are encouraged to borrow the software at the University Library Reserve desk. The software is on three (3) DVD media due to its size. The installation steps are listed below:

  1. Borrow the SAS Media at the University Library Reserve Desk.
  2. Discs only include the annual authorization for 2011-2012.
  3. Visit CSULB Software Depot to download next year’s authorization SID file when it becomes available. You will not need to reinstall.
  4. Insert Disc 1 and open directoy.
  5. Right-click the file “setup.exe” and “Run as Administrator”.
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen. USE defaults settings, with a few exceptions.
    • Select Deployment Task: Install SAS software.
    • Select Deployment Type: Install SAS Foundation and Related software
    • Select Products to Install: Add “SAS Power and Sample Size” and “SAS OnlineDoc for Windows” to the already checked products
    • Select Java Runtime Environment: Use the recommended Java Runtime Environment.
  7. You will be prompted to insert discs 2 and 3.
  8. Installation from the DVD will take about 1 1/2 hours and use about 10 Gbytes of storage space.
  9. Return the DVD Discs to the the University Library Reserve Desk.

Note: users with personally-owned computers are required to have an administrative account with a password other than "blank" to successfully install SAS. Your password needs to be at least eight (8) characters long for SAS to recognize it during the installation process. Contact your division, department or college technologist for assistance with installing SAS on university-owned computers.
