Using CSULB Software Depot Secure Download for Windows

Downloading Software from ELMS is a two part process.  The first step is to securely download the installation media.  The second step is to install the software.  Step one is essentially the same regardless of the software you are downloading and installing.  This documentation will guide you through that first step.

  1. When you get to the end of the checkout process for a particular piece of software, you should see a button labeled "Download Software."

  2. The next step is to save the secure download client.  Note that the name of the client (shown in the red box below) will change depending on the particular piece of software you are downloading.  Click on the "Save" button.

  3. Select a location to save the Secure Download client. Make sure you remember where you saved it, because it is used to start (and resume if necessary) the download of your software.  Select a location for the file and click on the "Save" button. In the example below, the file will be saved to the desktop.

  4. Once the download of the Secure Download Client is complete, click on the button labeled "Close."

  5. Navigate to the location (in our case the desktop) where you saved the Secure Download Client. The icon is a purple ball with a lightning bolt in the middle of it.  Double click on the icon to begin the download of your software.

  6. Since the Secure Download Client is an executable program, you may get a security warning like the one below.  If you do, click on the button labeled "Run" to allow the execution of the Secure Download Client.

  7. Enter the drive and path of the folder you would like to save the installation media to.  In our example below, we've used the default location (c:\Temp).  Once you've done that, click on the button labeled "continue to begin the download of your software.

  8. When the download is complete, click on the button labeled "Launch Install."  Depending on the software you downloaded and the software you chose, this button will either launch the installation program of the software you downloaded or open up a window for the location of where you decided to save the installation files.  If your computer security settings do not allow windows to open folders automatically you may get an error message indicating that is the case.  If that happens, open the folder using Windows Explorer.

Once you're sure that the software has been downloaded correctly, you can delete the secure download client.  If the download of your software is interrupted for some reason, go back to step five and the Secure Download Client should resume the download where it left off when the interruption occurred.
