People Centered Technology Services

T he newly created Office of Academic Technology at California State University, Long Beach is dedicated to the concept of serving people first (with technology).  We work closely with CSULB faculty, staff and students in the use of technology to enhance student access and success, high quality teaching, and notable research and creative activity.
 
The Office is made up of the following areas:

  • Help services
  • Classroom support services
  • Instructional technology and multimedia services
  • Desktop support and system administration services
  • Web and application development services
  • Server hosting and server management services
  • Technology coordination, project planning and management services

Dr. Don E. Gardner

About the Associate Vice President

Dr. Don E. Gardner has served as associate vice president for academic technology since February 2008.  He is an experienced administrator with a broad portfolio in information systems and services, technology management, technology services, telecommunications and web development.  Dr. Gardner spent the previous 13 years as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah.
 
As the CIO at Weber, Dr. Gardner was responsible for completing a number of important technology projects.  These included establishing the university's information technology plan; creating integrated e-mail systems for students and staff; providing lifetime e-mail accounts for alumni; launching new digital multimedia services for faculty and students; initiating the university's award-winning Internet-based courses, programs and services; overseeing major upgrades to Weber State's telephone switch and university network; and managing the completion of new multimedia classrooms.
 
Prior to working at Weber State, Dr. Gardner was executive director for information technology management at Winthrop University in South Carolina, associate vice president for information management at Florida Atlantic University, and assistant vice president of institutional support services at the University of Wyoming.  He also held prior administrative positions at Portland State University in Oregon, Arizona State University and Indiana University.
 
Dr. Gardner earned his bachelor's degree from Utah State University. He received his doctorate in higher education administration with an emphasis in management information systems from Indiana University.
