Dr. Dan Zanutto, who is currently enjoying a sabbatical has been asked to co-present with Jamie Knight at the 2nd Annual APME Conference (Association of Popular Music Educators Conference) June 19-21 at USC. They will discuss university/k-12 collaborations in developing popular music education programs.
Dr. Zanutto has also also been invited to speak at this summer’s Modern Band Symposium at Colorado State University, July 31-Aug 1. Over 200 teachers from across the country will be attending sessions.
Erin Miller (musicology) has had her paper entitled “Susana Baca and the Feminine Voice of Nueva CanciĆ³n” accepted to present at the Southwest Chapter meeting of the American Musicological Society in April at the University of Texas, Austin.
Alumnus Luke Hannington, a Ph.D. student in Theory at UCSB, had a paper accepted to the Pacific Southwest chapter of the American Musicological. Dr. Alicia Doyle serves as President of the chapter.
Maria Hu (MA Musicology) has had her paper on contemporary song setttings of Sappho’s poetry accepted for the Pacific Southwest Chapter of the American Musicological Society meeting in Santa Barbara, on Saturday, Feb. 15.
Randy Drake presented a paper entitled “Pussy Riot’s Performance Art: A Cultural Production of Dissent” at the Society for Ethnomusicology’s 2013 Annual Meeting in Indianapolis.
