Alumni and Faculty back Arturo Sandoval Benefit

Arturo Sandoval performed a benefit concert at he at the Alex Theatre in Glendale on Feb 15.

The powerhouse trumpet section for the Arturo Sandoval Big Band included alumni Wayne Bergeron and Gary Gopar, adjunct instructor Dan Fornero, and Gary Grant and Jeff Bunnell.

All proceeds from the show were donated to the Glendale Educational Foundation and Glendale Arts — two organizations that promote the arts and music education among local students.

Axel Clarke as Ringo in Beatles Tribute Band

Alumnus Axel Clarke is currently touring with a Beatles Tribute Band (yes, Axel is Ringo) in a Beatles vs Stones throw down.

In April, the band, Abbey Road, begin touring “In My Life – A Musical Theatre Tribute to the Beatles.” They’ll play Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City UT, as well as other stops in AZ, UT, ID MT, OR, and WA

BCCM Recruits at California All-State Music Education Conference

Six of our faculty attended CASMEC, the California All-State Music Education Conference, in Fresno last weekend. John Carnahan and the Wind Symphony performed a clinic on clarity and Christine Guter directed the high school all-state vocal jazz ensemble.

BCCM had a recruiting booth manned by all in attendance including Jermie Arnold, Deb Mitchell, Dan Zanutto, and Carolyn Bremer. Several alumni and students came by for their BCCM alumni buttons.

Torres-Santos in Puerto Rico Jazz Jam

Dr. Raymond Torres-Santos performed his most recent CD, “Antillano,” as part of the Puerto Rico Jazz Jam. His jazz quintet and special guests appeared at the historic Tapia Theater at Old San Juan on January 24. The CD is available in iTunes, CD Baby, and Amazon.com.

Mat Witek on The Jazz Cruise 2014

Alumnus Matt Witek will be performing with the John Pizzarelli Quartet on Holland America’s “Jazz Cruise 2014″ late January through early February. The line up includes Kurt Elling Quartet, Manhattan Transfer, Joe La Barbera, and the legendary Arturo Sandoval.
