Faculty on Advisory Committee for Int’l Trumpet Guild

Rob Frear and Richard Birkemeier have been appointed to the artistic advisory committee for the 2016 International Trumpet Guild Conference in Anaheim. The guild’s more than 5,000 members represent 56 countries and include professional and amateur performers, teachers, students, manufacturers, publishers, and others interested in belonging to an organization dedicated to the trumpet profession.

Nick Mancini Quartet at Jazz at LACMA

Nick Mancini’s quartet performed at Jazz at LACMA sponsored by the Los Angeles Jazz Society. Jazz at LACMA features leading Southern California artists. Celebrating over twenty years at LACMA, the program continues to be one of the museum’s most recognizable offerings. Over 42,000 visitors attend the program annually from April through November.

Alex Miller to have Worked Performed on Hear Now

Lecturer Alex Miller’s composition Echoes in the Dark for six instruments was selected for performance on the 2014 Hear Now Music Festival in Venice, CA, alongside music by many other Los Angeles composers. His work will be performed on May 3rd, 2014.

Hear Now is combining forces with  P.I.E. (People Inside Electronics). Esa-Pekka Salonen is Honorary Artistic Advisor of Hear Now.

Harmony Sweepstakes Regional features Alumni

Defending Champions Honey Whiskey Trio (alumni Courtney Gasque, and Ann Louise Thaiss, Christina Wilson) hosted the Harmony Sweepstakes Regional A Cappella competition on April 5th at the Hermosa Beach Playhouse. Our alumni permeated the awards.

Arf (with alumni Genevieve Artadi, Sean Fitzpartrick, Alexandra Domingo, and Andrea Calderwood, pictured) placed 2nd. Alexandra Domingo’s ”Like the First Time” received the award for best arrangement!

Down 4 The Count placed 3rd, and alumnus Colleen Keene received the award for best original composition with ”I’m Leaving SLO”

Raymond Torres-Santos at Festival Casals

The Symphony Orchestra of Puerto Rico premiered Dr. Raymond Torres-Santos’ “Symphonia Resonantia Luminosum Infinitum” at the Festival Casals of Puerto Rico on March 15. The Governor of Puerto Rico was at the concert and invited Dr. Torres-Santos to join with him in his private seating section. The concert was broadcast live by PBS.
