Live in Long Beach – Steel Drum CD

Dr. Dave Gerhart and the CSULB Steel Drum Orchestra will release their new CD “Live in Long Beach” on Sunday, April 27 at the Caribbean Extravaganza: Massive Band 2014. The CD features the collaboration between the CSULB Steel Drum Orchestra and the HSU Calypso Band on March 15 & 16, 2013.
The CSULB Steel Drum Orchestra and the HSU Calypso Band have a long history of collaboration, and have shared the stage numerous times over the past 26 years. Founded in 1986 by Dr. Eugene Novotney, the HSU Calypso Band was the first steel drum ensemble in the California State University system. One semester later, Dr. Michael Carney founded the CSULB Steel Drum Orchestra in 1987. This CD marks the first live album as a combined CSU steel drum ensemble and the first album from the CSULB Percussion Program.
