Jeff DeSeriere Appointed to Faculty at Orange County School of the Arts

MM Conducting student Jeff DeSeriere has been appointed as the new Symphonic Band conductor at the Orange County School of the Arts.

OCSA send out a new release to their Frederick Fennell Wind Studies Program Families which read, ”I am excited to inform you that we have hired a new Clarinet/Chamber Music teacher, Ms. Alana Miles, and a new Symphonic Band conductor, Mr. Jeffrey de Seriere. Both outstanding educators come to OCSA with an impressive background and exciting energy! We are very lucky to be adding Ms. Miles and Mr. de Seriere to our Wind Studies Program staff and I look forward to their wonderful work with our students. Please join me in welcoming Ms. Miles and Mr. de Seriere to the OCSA family!”

OSCA, a 7th–12th grade public charter school, has been consistently recognized as a US News’ “Best High Schools” program. 99% of its graduates attend college. (In the summer of 2012, the name of the school was changed from OCHSA (Orange County High School of the Arts) to OCSA (Orange County School of the Arts).)

CSULB Students Present Papers at Local AMS

Three current Musicology MA students (Kerry Brunson, Marc Lombardino, Steven Ottomanyí) and one Musicology MA alumnus (Robert Wahl) were selected to present their research at the fall meeting of the Pacific Southwest Chapter of the American Musicological Society to be held on Oct. 11 at UC Irvine.

These represent one half of all papers to be presented that day.

Evan Walsh Wins Position in Debut Orchestra

Trumpet major Evan Walsh successfully auditioned into the Debut Orchestra and is on the sub list for the American Youth Symphony.

Now celebrating its 59th Season, the Debut Orchestra is one of the oldest pre-professional training orchestras in the country. It is comprised of 70 talented musicians from around the Los Angeles area.

String Students on Ellen

Laura Bedol, Clara Kim, Emma McAllister, Korina Davis, Moni Simeonov, Romario Rivera, Joy Yi, and Hyunji Evonne Yi accompanied Bastille on Ellen. They taped at Warner Brothers on Sept 16th and the show is scheduled to air on Sept 17th. They backed up the British band on their band’s hit “Flaws.”

Beth Peregrine to Sing with The Golden Bridge

Senior Beth Peregrine has been invited to sing in a new 24-voiced professional choral ensemble is being created in Los Angeles for the English conductor Lady Suzi Eatwell (Digby), OBE. The project is called The Golden Bridge, and its purpose is to explore the relationship between the English and American choral traditions. The hope is that exchanges between England and California become the norm, particularly with the rich choral tradition present at Cambridge University – where Lady Eatwell is based.
