Christopher Rountree Directs Extravagant Semi-staged Multimedia Concert

Chris RountreeAlumnus Christopher Rountree provided musical direction for “Visitations,” an extravagant “semi-staged multimedia concert” (first heard on the Stanford Live series) of two one-act operas (“Theotokia” and “The War Reporter”) by Jonathan Berger, with a libretto by Dan O’Brien. The New Yorker lists performances Jan 11-13 in NYC at the Prototype Festival.

Alumnus Justin Padilla named Los Alamitos USD Teacher of the Year

Alumnus Justin Padilla has been named Los Alamitos Unified School District Teacher of the Year. He will be part of a program which recognizes excellent teachers. The Superintendent of the Los Alamitos Unified School District wrote of him:

“Justin has been the Band Director at Oak Middle School for nine years, where he built the program from a small number of students to well over 160 students in seven unique performing ensembles. His jazz band, symphonic band, and orchestra are involved in several music festivals each year and have received many awards and superior ratings. Justin is visible throughout the District by serving on several committees, performing at school and community events, and even participating with LAEF for the King and Queen of Hearts Gala.

“Mr. Padilla is a sought after mentor teacher, coordinates many parent volunteers to support his programs, and is currently the Vice President of Jazz Education for the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA), the premiere music educators association in Southern California.  Most importantly, Justin is an excellent teacher and musician. He loves working with young people and truly ignites unlimited possibilities for the students in his care. He is masterful at the art and science of teaching!”

VJ on National “The Sing Off” Tour

Alumnus VJ Rosales will be on a national tour with the Filharmonics and the other bands on “The Sing Off” February 19 – March 29. They play 6 shows a week, each in a different city, beginning in New York and the east cost, then to the midwest, Northwest, and finishing at the House of Blues in West Hollywood. Edward Nelson Accepted into Merola Program

Alumnus Edward Nelson has been accepted into the prestigious Merola Program with the San Francisco Opera, following in the footsteps of Marina Harris. Edward also won the 2013 Mid-South Region of the Metropolitan Opera Auditions, sang the lead role in Owen Wingrave (double cast with Simon Barrad) at CCM this past fall, under the direction of our own Johannes Mueller-Stosch. He was a 2012 Apprentice Artist with the Central City Opera House and has been a Fellow at Tanglewood.
