Originally from Tennessee, Dr. Justin Hageman has performed and worked in many different capacities in the Los Angeles area as a horn player. He has performed with such varied artists as Andrea Bocceli, Frank Sinatra Jr., Josh Groban, Diana Krall, and Tony Bennett. In addition, he has recorded with artists such as R.E.M., Barry Manilow, Daft Punk, Michael Buble, Dr. Dre, will.I.am., and Harry Connick, Jr. Dr. Hageman has also worked on several films and television shows, and some his credits include Spiderman 3, Ice Age—Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Alice in Wonderland, Cats and Dogs 2, Contagion, Predators, Mr. Popper's Penguins, Ted, Jack Reacher, The Lone Ranger, Oblivion, Epic, Family Guy, American Dad, The Cleveland Show, and The Simpsons.
As an orchestral performer, Dr. Hageman is a member of the Santa Barbara Symphony and has performed with the Los Angeles Opera, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, the Long Beach Symphony, the Pasadena Symphony, the New West Symphony, the Riverside Philharmonic, Broadway LA’s production of Wicked, and the Center Group Theatre’s productions of Les Miserables and Mary Poppins. In the spring and summer of 2008, he performed throughout Ireland and London with the Camerata Pacifica chamber ensemble on the Messenger Tour and throughout Japan with the Percy Faith Jazz Orchestra.
Dr. Hageman received his B.M. degree in Music Education with an emphasis on horn from Tennessee Technological University while studying with Arthur LaBar. He earned his Masters in Horn Performance and Doctor of Musical Arts in Horn Performance and Wind Conducting at UCLA under the tutelage of horn professor, Brian O’Connor and Director of Bands, Dr. Thomas Lee. His other most influential teachers have included James Thatcher, Calvin Smith, and Earl Paluzzi. He is an alumnus of the Tennessee Governor’s School for the Arts, the Brevard Music Center, and the Henry Mancini Institute.
Dr. Hageman also devotes much of his time to education and in addition to his duties at Cal State University, Long Beach, he also teaches at Long Beach City College and maintains a private studio. He currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Lindsey and daughters, Sydney and Katelyn.
