Maggie Phillips, originally from the Midwest, holds a BFA in Dance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  Maggie has had the pleasure of working with inspirational ballet and modern dance instructors and choreographers, including Germaul Barnes, Jan Erkert, Keith Johnson, Lisa and Lorin Johnson, Jon Lehrer, Linda Lehovec, Alexa Melonopoulos, John Pennington, and Rebecca Nettl-Fiol.  She received a summer study scholarship in 2009 with aTrek Dance Collective (St. Louis, MO), and has danced professionally with Common Thread Contemporary Dance Company under the artistic direction of Jennifer Medina (St. Louis, MO).  In addition to her teaching and performance career in dance, Maggie holds a Comprehensive Pilates Certification from BASI Pilates, and has taught mat and equipment Pilates in California, Illinois, and Missouri.  Maggie is currently in her 2nd year of the MFA Dance program at CSULB.  She looks forward to teaching Introduction to Modern Dance, as well as continuing her thesis work, which investigates training methodologies to enhance dancers’ awareness and presence during performance.
